Exhaust systems must be independent & end outdoors
Ducts must be at least 4" in diameter
Use metal connectors between the unit & the exhaust duct
Ductwork joints shall be secured with metal tape
Pipe connections should point in the same direction as the airflow
Concealed ducts must be rigid metal, galvanized or aluminum
Outside you should have a working damper and a rodent-bird screen
Did you know that flammable lint, and dirt and dust accumulate quite rapidly inside a dryer vent.
We recommended cleaning your dryer vents and the dryer chassis out regularly
Dryer Vent Cleaning Check List
1. Dryer duct must be at least 4" diameter.
2. Concealed ducts must be rigid metal duct.
3. Duct joints shall be secured with metal tape.
4. Pipe connections are installed to point in the direction of the airflow.
5. Dryer vents shall be independent of all other systems and terminate outdoors.
6. Outside hood should be equipped with a functioning back draft damper.
7. Use only flexible metal connectors between the dryer and duct.
8. Install rodent and bird screen protection.
Symptoms of a clogged dryer vent
1. Clothes drying time is very long, more then 35-45 minutes.
2. Clothing is hotter than normal at the end of the cycle.
3. Vent Hood Flapper doesn't open when dryer is on.
4. Moisture in the laundry room
What Causes Dryer Fires & How can I Prevent Dryer Fires
Restricted airflow, lint build-up and moisture cause overheating that prevents fast drying action. When this happens, the temperature limit safety switches cycle on and off continuously and will fail over a period of time. The higher costs of operation and possibility of a dangerous dryer fire.
